How to Check Your Fixed Wireless NTD Version

Make sure you have the latest WNTD to access the best possible speeds on your nbn® Fixed Wireless service!

With more and more Fixed Wireless services available to take up an nbn® Fixed Wireless High-Speed tier plan, it’s now more important than ever to be able to identify which antenna you have (called a WNTD – Wireless Network Terminating Device), to see if you need a free of charge upgrade to your equipment in order to take up the new plans.

You also must be in an area where the fixed wireless towers have been upgraded, you can check this by calling our Sales team on 13 22 88 or searching your address on our website.

Use the information below to work out which WNTD (Wireless Network Termination Device) you have, and the differences between each.  This will let you know whether Activ8me needs to arrange a free replacement with a newer model to take up one of the new Fixed Wireless High Speed Tier plans.

Wireless Network Termination Device (WNTD) Versions 1 & 2

The V1 and V2 WNTD is a diamond-shaped antenna.

These older devices continue to operate reliably, however they can’t to take full advantage of the uplift nbn has announced for the Fixed Wireless Plus plan (now up to 100/20 Mbps*).

We’re proactively contacting customers in collaboration with nbn to upgrade customers with this WNTD to a newer version, free of charge.

However, if you have this antenna and would like yours upgraded, please contact us on 13 22 88. These V1 & V2 devices are unable of supporting the new high-speed tiers and will be automatically upgraded if a high-speed service is ordered through us.

WNTD Version 3

The V3 model is a rectangular WNTD with sharper edges. This unit was introduced by nbn in 2018 and is the most widely deployed model on the nbn Fixed Wireless network today.

It can reach potential speeds of 250 Mbps download and 25 Mbps upload, and is therefore suitable for all plans except for the fastest, new high-speed plan: the Fixed Wireless Super Fast Speed Tier, which has a potential maximum Off-Peak speed of 400 Mbps*Δ.

We’ll arrange for this unit to be upgraded automatically if a Fixed Wireless Super Fast service is available at your location and you order the Super Fast plan through Activ8me.

WNTD Version 4

The rectangular WNTD model with rounded edges. This unit was introduced in late 2023 and is suitable for all existing and planned Fixed Wireless plans.

In fact, it can reach potential peak speeds well beyond our current planned product offerings.

This unit will be installed for most new Fixed Wireless connections and, in most instances, where we are upgrading one of the older Version 1 or Version 2 devices.

If you have any other questions, like wanting to check if you’re location is upgraded to take up the new High-Speed tiers, give our team a call on 13 22 88.

* Your experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn network, depends on the nbn network technology and configuration over which services are delivered to your premises, whether you are using the internet during the busy period, and some factors outside our control (like your equipment quality, software, broadband plans, signal reception and how your service provider designs its network). Speeds may be impacted by the number of concurrent users on nbn’s Fixed Wireless network, including during busy periods.

Δ These are nbn wholesale speed tiers which nbn provides to retail providers including Activ8me.  Attainable wholesale speeds are subject to the rollout of network upgrades and some premises will require nbn to complete upgrades to the equipment at the premises.  Activ8me will be measuring customer speeds and providing Typical Evening Speeds on these new speed tiers as soon as possible.
