Opticomm Router Setup

Plugging in Your Opticomm Router

Routers purchased from Activ8me are pre-configured in our Melbourne warehouse, so all you need to do is plug it in

Setup for your Wi-Fi router with an Opticomm service is a simple process.  Once your internet service has been activated, please follow the instructions below to connect your TP-LINK VX230V wireless router to your Opticomm Optical Network Terminal (ONT).

You can connect your router to the Opticomm network in two ways:

  • Option 1: Using an Ethernet wall port inside your house.
  • Option 2: By connecting directly to the Opticomm ONT.

Option 1: Connecting the Router via Ethernet Wall Port

Step 1: Locate an Ethernet wall port inside your house.

We suggest choosing a Wall Port that’s located centrally within your home for best Wi-Fi coverage.

An ethernet wall port

An ethernet wall port looks like a power point but with a port for an ethernet cable to connect to.

Connect the Ethernet cable supplied with your Activ8me Wi-Fi router (normally a yellow, grey or blue cord) to this Port.

Step 2: Plug the other end of the ethernet cable into the WAN Port on your Activ8me Wi-Fi router.

Step 3: Connect the power adapter to the Activ8me Wi-Fi router and a power socket (or power board).

Connect your Wi-Fi router to power using the supplied power cable.

Step 4: Once powered on, please wait until the following lights turn green (this process can take up to 5 minutes).

NOTE: You also need to connect another ethernet cable from the ONT (often located in a garage or cupboard) to a Wall Port nearby it, which routes the connection from the ONT to the Wall Port you’ve chosen to use within your house.

If these lights on the router haven’t appeared after a few minutes, please follow the steps for Option 2 below, to ensure your ONT is connected.

Step 5: On your device, connect to the Wi-Fi network displaying your Wi-Fi ID and enter the Wi-Fi Password (these are located on the bottom of your Activ8me Wi-Fi router).

Your device should now be connected and online.

Easy as that!

Option 2: Connecting the Router via the Optical Network Terminal (ONT)

Step 1: Find the ONT within your house

Locate the ONT at your property, often located in a garage or cupboard. Connect the Ethernet cable supplied with your Activ8me Wi-Fi router (normally a yellow, grey or blue cord) to the LAN1 Port on the ONT.

In some instances, your new Activ8me connection might be on LAN2 instead of LAN1.  We’ll send you a text message when your service activates, confirm the LAN port your new connection is running through.

The ONT may look different to the image shown. If the LAN1 Port already has a cable connected, please refer to your activation message for the correct LAN Port number.

Step 2: Plug the other end of the ethernet cable into the WAN Port on your Activ8me Wi-Fi router.

Step 5: On your device, connect to the Wi-Fi network displaying your Wi-Fi ID and enter the Wi-Fi Password (these are located on the bottom of your Activ8me Wi-Fi router).

Your device should now be connected and online.

How to Configure Your BYO Router (or Reconfigure after Resetting)

Activ8me routers arrive pre-configured.  However, if you’re using your own BYO router or have reset your router and need to reconfigure it for any reason, you will need to enter your service’s username and password into the router settings.

Please follow the step-by-step instructions in the video below:
