The availability of the National Broadband Network (nbn®) has influenced the purchasing preference of would-be homeowners. If a property does not have access to the nbn®, the property is less attractive to home buyers.
For property rental, the availability of the nbn® is a deciding factor for prospective tenants, and a leading property leasing site has recognised this.
In an industry first, rent.com.au has included the nbn® status of homes in listing information alongside property details for the convenient reference of rent seekers. With just a few clicks, site users are able to determine if the property has access to fast internet.
Included in the nbn® information on rent.com.au is the type of the technology the property is able to connect to and the status (available, scheduled or unknown) of the nbn®. This way, site users can lease a home able to connect to fast internet.
This feature is a response to site feedback where the information was in demand. rent.com.au acknowledged that nbn®’s availability is a factor in decision making alongside variables such as budget, property features and location.

“Currently some agents and landlords show NBN information but there was a lack of consistency across the industry and hence our listings,” Bader explained. “This solves that problem and makes things easier for renters, agents and landlords.”

Based on the figures posted on the rent.com.au website, as many as 80,000 properties can now connect to the nbn® internet. By the end of 2017, it’s expected that half of the active listings will be eligible for an internet connection.
For future renters, consider the following nbn® technology when deciding to shortlist properties over at rent.com.au:

nbn® Fixed Line –  The fastest nbn® technology to date. Depending on the property location, you may be eligible for either nbn fibre plans or nbn fibre to the node plans.

nbn® Wireless – Wireless internet is installed in the property via a roof antenna. The nbn fixed wireless plans are commonly available in properties in regional towns.

nbn® Satellite – Utilises the new nbn® Sky Muster® satellite service that is now available through nbn sky muster plans. Satellite is available in areas outside the coverage of nbn fibre and nbn wireless.

With the nbn® targeting a 2020 rollout completion, expect nbn® information to be common in real estate websites in the near future. Rent.com.au win this one as the first to successfully integrate the vital nbn® information in their listings.
