NBN Plans Cyber Security Centre in Melbourne

Good news to job seekers as the National Broadband Network is set to create up to 700 new vacancies at their new cyber security headquarters currently in the works in Melbourne.
According to the Victorian government, IT specialists will be hard at work at the 24-hour centre at the Docklands in order to protect the NBN from cyber attacks.
In the next couple of years, this move is expected to create around 400 jobs in tech and some 300 in construction and maintenance.
Small Business Minister for Victoria, Philip Dalidakis did not comment on the cost to the Andrews Government to woo the NBN, but insisted that it was well worth it.
He said they make no apologies for the aggressive manner by which they operated in the marketplace to land those jobs and those companies that will hold in good stead Melbourne and Victoria’s position as the top IT destination – the number one in tech, number one digital destination, and number one for start-ups.
Back in August, it was announced by the Federal Government that there would be 4,500 new jobs to ensure the NBN’s completion by 2020.
According to Federal Communications Minister Mitch Fifield, there are currently 2,300 Victorians working for the National Broadband Network.
He said as a senator for Victoria, he was quite pleased to be seeing new jobs there.
Chief Information Officer for the NBN John McInerney said the centre would be the NBN’s first line of defence.
He said it will be looking at traffic across the network and acting as a first point of interrogation of that traffic as it goes through. According to him, it really is a national broadband asset, and a critical one for Australia as the centre will be ensuring they understand what’s actually traversing the network at all times.
