Tasmania could be first fully connected state with the NBN

Tasmania is well on its way to becoming Australia’s first state to be completely connected to the National Broadband Network come June next year.
The nbn, rated as one of the best networks worldwide, had recently been made available to half of the homes and businesses located in Hobart – thus hitting a milestone for the state.
As of today, there are around 28,000 premises connected to nbn®’s Fixed Wireless network, with the state pledging to make those numbers rise to 83,000 connected premises in greater Hobart.
According to the Paul Fletcher, parliamentary secretary to the Minister for Communications, the nbn rollout is now accelerating not just in Tasmania, but nationwide.
He said this is an enormous benefit for homes and businesses alike.
To date, there are 95,000 nbn-connected homes and businesses in NSW. Plans to deliver the nbn® Fixed Wireless Internet services to another 20,000 homes in Western Sydney, including Lidcombe, Penrith, and Homebush are also underway.
Recently, nbn’s $800 million cable network deal with Optus for its HFC network was approved by the ACCC. The deal could see a faster and cheaper rollout for nationwide delivery.
As per the nbn, it is estimated that the network will reach 1.9 million premises nationwide by mid-2016.
