Activ8me at Austmine 2017 Conference

16 June 2017

Austmine ConferenceActiv8me Corporate Sales representative Scott Cogley visited Perth last month for the Austmine 2017 conference, a 2 day event bringing together those working in the mining industry and those working to improve the industry and experiences.
Scott described the conference as providing him with a greater understanding into the mining industry as a whole, with the organisers eager to promote and showcast the Mining Equipment Technology & Services (METS) industry and its contained organisations to support it and ensure Australia’s mining industry remains a leading force in the world of mining.
Over 700 delegates and representatives attended the conference, which consisted of networking events, presentations and discussions by industry leaders, and a large exhibitors hall with over 70 METS exhibitors on display.
The key messages of the conference were focusing on the initiatives led by the development of data and technology, with real-time-data influencing decisions and becoming the key for future success in the industry.
The highlight from the conference was the Annual Dinner and Awards night, especially featured key note speaker Matt Hall. Matt is Australia’s only Red Bull pilot racer, and he reflected on his past journey and emphasised the importance of self-reflection and realistic goal setting. He also described how essential it is to build the right team around you and plan together to create the right path to your dream.
During the Austmine conference, Scott Cogley was able to learn about the opportunities for Activ8me to assist the mining industry in becoming more connected and efficient, as well as gaining an insight into how the industry works and where key figures see the sector moving in the near future, as well as usual topics of financials and performance improvement. The development of the Internet Of Things has previously been spoken about as a concept, but this year was able to be presented as an evidenced reality, allowing those in the industry to discuss newly discovered knowledge.
Another important field of discussion was the welfare of those working on site, particularly FIFO (fly-in-fly-out) staff who often spend long periods away from their families and struggle with the lack of availability of communications.
All up, the conference served as a wonderful insight to the mining industry and it’s goals for the future, and an opportunity to meet wonderful people doing work in the sector, as well as providing education and inspiration in the form of the speakers.
