What is Opticomm Internet?

OptiComm™ are one of the largest builder/owner-operators of estate communities and apartment complexes in Australia, accounting for more than 100,000 Australian households.
In these communities, there is no nbn^® because OptiComm™ have built into their communities the same fibre-optic cabling that NBN Co. use for their fibre broadband service.
Residents wanting to get connected simply need to call an ISP who services the OptiComm™ network, like Activ8me, to get up and running on a high-speed, broadband home internet service.

What’s the Difference Between Opticomm and nbn?

New residents moving into OptiComm™ estates often have great difficulty in finding an internet provider to service the area, as Australia’s largest internet providers (including Optus, Telstra and TPG) aren’t able to offer any internet to these addresses.
Only a limited number of ISPs (Internet Service Providers) service the OptiComm™ network, Activ8me being one of them.
Confusion is often created by both residents and developers, who may refer to the service as ‘nbn’. Although it’s the same, high quality broadband technology, it’s not the ‘National Broadband Network.’
The good news is you can get the same speed tiers offered on the nbn^®, with very similar pricing and reliability. Our OptiComm™ Supersonic speed tier (50/20mbps) has typical evening download speeds of 48.98mbps. (as at 06 Mar 2024), compared to our nbn^® supersonic tier which achieved typical evening speeds of 36.18mbps. (as at 16 Apr 2024).

Can I Use the Same Router I Used On nbn?

If you are moving into an OptiComm™ estate, a useful thing to know is you can even use your existing WiFi router, assuming your router isn’t locked to your old ISP.
OptiComm™ services use a router in a similar way to the nbn^®, plugging into an NTD (Network Termination Device), sometimes known as an ONT (Optical Network Terminal), meaning routers used for an nbn^® connection can be easily configured to work on OptiComm™.

One of the great benefits of an Activ8me service is that we offer services across all nbn^® technologies as well as OptiComm™ estates. This means if you ever move out of your OptiComm™ connected adddress, we’ll be able to quickly connect you up at your new property, whether it be another OptiComm™ site or one serviced by the nbn^®.

Our unlimited data plans start at $59.95, ranging up to $89.95 for unlimited data on the fastest, 100/40mbps speed tier.
In our most recent typical evening speed testing, we found our OptiComm™ Hypersonic (100/40mbps) speed tier achieved blazing fast typical evening speeds (between 7-11pm) of 92.78mbps. (as at 06 Mar 2024).

How Do I Connect to Opticomm?

Activ8me offers broadband internet services to all OptiComm™ estates and apartment complexes, but if you’re unsure you can use our address checker, or call us on 13 22 88 to speak with our Australian Sales Team and we can double-check for you.
You can also check what speed might suit you best by seeing what speeds your current service gives you by doing a Speed Test.

If the necessary hardware (the ONT) has already been installed by OptiComm™ (normally in the garage), the standard provisioning time for a new service means it will be up-and-running within 48 hours – although in our experience new services tend to be online within a few hours of signing-up.
