ABC iView Now Available on PlayOn CloudJune 3, 2020 11:04 am
Activ8me is delighted to announce the official launch of ABC iView™ through PlayOn.TV Australia.
Australian users of PlayOn Cloud may have noticed the new icon added to their channel list recently due to the channel’s ‘soft-launch’ a fortnight ago. Following successful tests of the new service, PlayOn.TV Australia have confirmed to us the channel is fully operational.
ABC iView™ is the first Australian specific provider to be added to PlayOn Cloud’s catalogue of channels, with the content only available to Australian viewers. This news will be met with much fanfare by those who have been anticipating a local Aussie channel to join the service following the launch of PlayOn.TV Australia earlier this year.
For those with limited data plans, particularly households using nbn™ Sky Muster™ or nbn™ Sky Muster™ Plus, the amount of streaming video they could consume in Peak hours has always been limited to the amount of Peak data they have remaining.
PlayOn Cloud is an iOS/Android app that is free to download and allows users to choose videos from streaming services, record them (without using any data), then download those recordings(using up data) at a time of the user’s choosing.
By setting the app to auto-download recordings during the night, videos downloaded in Off Peak hours (1am – 7 am local time) counts towards monthly metered Off Peak data on nbn™ Sky Muster™ or nbn™ Sky Muster™ Plus, saving scarce monthly Peak data which can then be put towards other metered online activities in Peak times (7 am – 1 am local time).
Since the launch of PlayOn.TV Australia in March this year, the headlining channels for the PlayOn Cloud service for Australians have been Netflix Australia™, YouTube™, Amazon Prime Video™ and Disney+™, with several other smaller content providers, like Tubi ™, also available to record and download.
The addition of ABC iView™ is particularly valuable for rural Australians, as the streaming service is freeof-charge and recording/downloading content from ABC iView™ on PlayOn Cloud doesn’t even require setting up for an ABC iView™ account.
As well as various genres of entertainment and documentaries, both TV shows and movies for the whole family, ABC iView™ also includes news categories, current events shows, panel discusisons and even a topical ‘Coronavirus: Stay Informed’ category.
This gives those rural and regional Australians on nbn™ Sky Muster™ or nbn™ Sky Muster™ Plus a way to use their Off Peak data to download local, regional Australian news and current affairs shows for viewing in Peak time.
The Regional Australia category is also featured on PlayOn Cloud spotlighting a range of content specifically made for Regional and Rural Australians.
In addition to the Regional Australian category, ABC iView™ offers TV shows and movies covering the following genres:
- Children’s Shows
- News & Current Events
- Panel Discussions
Choosing a show to download on ABC iView™ is very easy and intuitive using the PlayOn Cloud app.
You can browse the available content as soon as you click the ABC iView™ channel icon. There is no need to create or log in to an ABC iView™ account. You do, of course, need a PlayOn.TV Australia account, but if don’t have one yet you can sign up here.
Once you open the PlayOn Cloud app, click on the ABC iView™ channel icon in the list of available channels on the ‘Channels’ tab:
That brings up the various program categories/genres of ABC iView™ content to choose between:
All you then need to do is click ‘Record’ on your chosen show.
It will begin recording to the Cloud, where the recording is saved for seven days, waiting for you to download it.
Once recorded to the Cloud, download your recording during the 1am – 7am local time window to use Off Peak data instead of Peak data to download your video.
