sky muster 2 launch rural internet
The soon to be launched Sky Muster® II is expected to further help rural internet connectivity in Australia. This second satellite will be used to provide internet services in areas that are too remote or expensive to deploy wired broadband infrastructure as part of the National Broadband Network (nbn®).
Sky Muster® II is geared to provide extra data capacity to support the company’s satellite broadband technology. With an extremely strong demand for satellite services and a very wide coverage area, one satellite is not going to be enough. The two Sky Muster® satellites have been designed to ensure that everyone in the country will have access to fast broadband by 2020.
According to the nbn®, the satellite technology will help bridge Australia’s digital divide for around 400,000 homes and businesses in regional and remote areas by providing them with better access to distance online education and healthcare services as well as the ability to run more efficient agribusinesses from our outback farms.

“We are already seeing how access to fast broadband for small businesses and farms in the most remote outback and offshore locations can improve productivity by better enabling the ability to store files in the cloud and avoid lengthy business trips by communicating with customers and suppliers through more reliable video conferencing,”

-nbn® satellite architect, Julia Dickinson.

Alicia Garden, CEO of grain farmers advocacy group GrainGrowers Ltd, highlighted that access to the nbn® satellite service is a “potential game-changer” for Australian grain growers:

“Like any other business, grain farmers require fast, affordable, reliable internet connectivity to operate their enterprises to their potential. However, currently many farmers are not able to access connectivity comparable to their urban counterparts. It will enhance connectivity standards to improve the efficiency and profitability of Australian farming by changing the way farmers do business – in particular their capacity to collect, analyse, and apply agriculture data,”

The dream of rural Australians to have access to fast and affordable internet is now coming to fruition. Subscribe to Sky Muster plans to attain better productivity in your small businesses and farms.
