What is ADSL2+ Broadband?

ADSL2+ broadband gives you speeds up to three times faster than standard ADSL. The data rates can go as high as 24 Mbit/s downstream and 1 Mbit/s upstream, depending on the distance of the customer’s home from the Digital Subscribe Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM), a network device located in the telephone exchange. DSLAM is used by ISPs to route incoming DSL connections to the Internet.

Connecting to Activ8me ADSL

How Do I Sign Up To Activ8me ADSL?

You can signup to Activ8me ADSL online or by calling 13 22 88 .

Please Note: Activ8me do not service all areas of Australia and may not be able to provide you with an ADSL
connection.

How Do I Switch To Activ8me?

If you are already connected to an ADSL service and wish to transfer to Activ8me you can do so by calling 13 22 88 to see if Activ8me can service your area. If we can provide an ADSL connection at your exchange we will endeavor to CHURN (transfer) your service over to Activ8me as soon as possible. Your previous providers connection will no longer be active.

Please Note: Activ8me are not responsible for any cancellation or early termination fees incurred from your previous provider.

I'm Moving House

If you are moving house, you can reconnect with Activ8me at your new location if we are able to offer you a service. If we cannot connect you to an ADSL service at your new premises we can do a check to see if there are other broadband services available to you. If we cannot connect you with another service at your new premises you will have to cancel your Activ8me connection and pay any cancellation fee's that may apply.

Billing & Charges

How am I billed?

ADSL is billed in advance at the start of the billing month. You will only ever be charged for your monthly plan as we do not charge excess usage on our plans as they are shaped.

How do I nominate an authorised account representative?

To add a nominated representative to an account the account holder must call support or accounts on 1300 760 219 and request to add an authorised representative to the account. This will allow the authorised representative to speak to the accounts and support department in future without requiring confirmation from the account holder. Alternatively a signed letter can be sent by the account holder nominating an authorised representative via fax or post.

How much does it cost to connect to ADSL?

If you do not currently have an ADSL connection a fee of $159 is charged on a 0 month contract and $99 on a 12 month contract.

Is there a contract term?

Yes. There is either a 0, 12 or 24 month contract to choose from. An early termination fee applies on 12 and 24 month terms if the contract is cancelled before the contract term is complete.

What Spend Management tools do you offer?

Activ8me offer shaped broadband plans to restrict the price a customer pays each month. A shaped plan does
not charge excess usage if you use more data than your plan permits. A shaped plan will slow the speed of the connection once the monthly data limit has been exceed. On a shaped plan you will always receive a flat monthly plan fee. ADSL plans are all currently shaped.

 

General Info

What is ADSL?

ADSL is s a high-speed Internet service that utilises existing copper telephones lines to send and receive data at speeds that far exceed conventional dial-up services. ADSL2+ can achieve speeds of up to 20Mbps.

Can I get ADSL?

You may or may not be able to get ADSL based on your location and distance from the local telephone exchange, quality of copper phone line and available capacity of exchange. We can run a quick test on your phone number to see if ADSL is available at your premises.

Do you have a VoIP service?

Yes. Activ8me do have a VoIP service called Activ8me Internet Phone. More information about Activ8me Internet Phone can be found on the Internet Phone product page).

What is Activ8me Internet Phone VoIP?

Activ8me Internet Phone (VoIP) is a phone service that allows you to make calls over the internet through a broadband service. You still use your telephone the same as before, but instead of plugging your phone into the socket on your wall, you plug it into the back of a special VoIP ATA box and into your modem. Note: if you have a VoIP compatible handset and your broadband modem is VoIP enabled you will only need to plug the handset directly into your modem (a VoIP ATA box is not required).

Can I view my usage online?

Yes. We provide a usage meter so you can keep track of how much data you are using. The usage meter is updated once an hour.

Will ADSL degrade my phone call quality?

ADSL modems do create a small amount of noise disturbance on the phone line. This very minimal and if it is a bother can be cleaned up by installing a line filter on the phone points around the premises.

What speeds can I expect to get with an ADSL2+ connection?

ADSL2+ is capable of getting speeds of 20Mbps dowload/1Mbps upload, however most ADSL2+ customers experience average speeds of 10Mbps dowload/512Kbps upload.

Set-Up

Do you provide an ADSL2+ modem?

Yes. You can purchase an ADSL modem from us at the time of signup. It is recommended you purchase a modem from us as we are able to support it when troubleshooting. If you purchase another modem then our technical support team may not be able to support it. 

Can I use my existing ADSL2+ modem with Activ8me?

Yes, you may use your existing ADSL2+ compatible modem with Activ8me ADSL. Most ADSL2+ modems purchased in the last 2-3 years will work on our ADSL connection however in some instances our technical support team may not be able to troubleshoot technical issues and you may have to call the modem manufacturer.

Can I transfer/churn from another ISP to Activ8me?

If your current ISP is a participant of the ADSL2+ Churn process, you can apply for transfer/churn to Activ8me ADSL service.

How long does it take to get ADSL installed on my nominated phone line?

Allow up to 5 working days to have your ADSL connection activated.

Do I need any special equipment to get ADSL2+ speeds?

Yes, you will need a modem that is compatible with ADSL2+ to achieve your maximum Unleashed+ download speeds. You can purchase an ADSL2+ compatible modem from us at the time of signup. If your ADSL modem/router is only ADSL1 compatible, you will only be able to achieve speeds up to a maximum of 8Mbps.

Will I need to reconfigure my modem/router for ADSL2+?

If you have been using a modem with your ADSL service, which is already ADSL2+ compatible, you will not need to reconfigure it.

Can I use the phone while using ADSL connection?

Yes, ADSL modems allow you to use the phone while you are on the internet. You can make and receive calls as you would without an internet connection. However It is recommended you use a line splitter or filter so the telephone line is clearer with less noise disturbance.

What is the difference between ADSL and ADSL 2+?

The only difference between ADSL and ADSL 2+ is the speed. ADSL can achieve speeds of 8Mbps download and 256Kbps upload. ADSL2+ can achieve speeds of up to 20Mbps download and 1Mbps upload.

Do I need to install another phone line?

No. ADSL works by splitting your existing telephone line signal in two, one for voice and the other for data, so as long as you have an active phone line you won't need to install a second line.

What is a line splitter and a line filter?

A line splitter is a small connection device that separates the phone wall point into two, one for the phone and one for the ADSL modem. A line filter is a small connection device that you fit on the other connected phone points in the house to filter out noise interference cause by the ADSL connection.

What if I have a back to base alarm system?

If you have a Back to Base alarm system on the same phone number that ADSL will be installed on then you may experience interference when the alarm tries to contact the alarm monitoring system. You must contact your alarm company for more information on a solution as they may be able to recommend a suitable filter or they may recommend the installation of hard wired central splitter.
