Thuraya was founded over 10 years ago by an international consortium of telecommunications operators and uses technology developed and built by Boeing Satellite Services.

In Australia, the satellite phone services offered by activ8me are based on the Thuraya 3 satellite. Launched in January 2008, the new satellite has opened up satellite phone services in Australia, providing great call quality, wider choice and competitive pricing.
