The weather is getting warmer and it’s not just because summer is on its way. Global warming is a very real issue affecting every country in the world whether they like it or not. Many things can be done by companies and individuals to slow the effects of global warming.

At Activ8me we have a few programs in place to do what we can to help the environment.
Some of the programs we have set up around the office include:

Printer Cartridge Recycling Through Planet Ark - As an office we use quite a few printer and photocopier toner cartridges even though we try to minimise printing waste. Unfortunate working in a busy office there is always going to be wasted paper and ink but we minimise when we can. We encourage our staff to only print what is necessary so to avoid paper wastage.

Paper Recycle Bins – There are two large recycle bins near the photocopier for paper waste. Instead of employees throwing paper in the waste bins under their desk they put it in these bins to be recycled.

Shutting Down Computers – Every night before we go home each employee makes sure their computer is completely shut down to avoid wasting electricity throughout the night. By shutting computers down on average you save 75 hours of running time per person per week. If this figure is multiplied by 30 (the number of people in a small office) this equates to an average of 2,250 hours of wasted electricity thought the night on a work week.

Skype – We regularly video Skype interstate instead of setting up face to face meetings, this not only saves money on flights and accommodation but I also cuts carbon emissions by not having to fly interstate or drive around to get to meetings. This is one of the most common ways to have meetings now days as it is much less time consuming and financially beneficial for all parties involved.

There is still a long way our company can go towards being ‘Green’ and we are constantly improving the office with environmentally friendly ideas. Our small contribution may not be doing a lot for the environment but every little bit helps and the more we can contribute the better we will all be for it in the long term. I’m sure the penguins in Antarctica will greatly appreciate our effort anyway.
